Artist Statement

Dianna Shea O’Briant uses a love of symbolism and feminism to lead her career of illustration and surface design using watercolor, silk, and digital painting. Exploring through line drawings and watercolors, delicate and ethereal silk works, as well as experimental canvases such as Dura-Lar, she works mainly using her skills from traditional illustration mediums to a new world of surface design and fibers.

With a keen eye for detail and organization, she creates delicate and methodical images portraying organic creations of life including nature and women. These themes are expressed with motifs such as the complexities of the female human figure’s curvatures and animals and their many conceptual meanings in many different human cultures. Along with these themes, mythology, and nature encompass her overall concepts, weaving their stories and characters into her drawings and paintings.
